“Unleashing the True Potential of the Subaru WRX: A Spirited Ride with a Stiff Suspension”

The Subaru WRX has been a subject of discussion among the staff at our virtual office. One reviewer found the winter tires to be too squirmy and uncommunicative on dry pavement, while another had a different experience after encountering snow. This difference in opinion prompted curiosity about the WRX’s factory tires.

The WRX comes equipped with 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels and Dunlop SP Sport Maxx 600 A tires. These tires are billed as “high-performance summer tires” by Subaru. The goal is to provide grip, stability, and minimal body roll. And indeed, the WRX delivers on these promises. It is a joy to carry speed through corners, as the car feels well-controlled and communicative.

However, the ride quality of the WRX leaves much to be desired. Compared to the WRX TR, which has an upgraded suspension, the Limited trim feels like riding a wooden roller coaster. This is surprising since one would expect the sportier suspension and bigger wheels of the TR to result in a choppier ride. But the TR handles cracked pavement and highway frost heaves with ease, while the Limited struggles.

Despite the rough ride, after a week of driving the WRX, the reviewer no longer notices the beatings. The thumps, bumps, and extra noise have become background noise. It is as if the car’s setup is ideal for spirited driving with a touch of daily-driving practicality.

Overall, the WRX provides an exhilarating driving experience with its track-tuned suspension and high-performance tires. While the ride quality may leave something to be desired, it doesn’t detract from the fun behind the wheel. The reviewer is no longer complaining but instead enjoys every moment spent in the WRX, even if it’s just for a short drive across town. The only question that remains is how the WRX will compare to other well-balanced and entertaining cars with smoother rides.
