“Unveiling the Maserati Grancabrio Folgore: A High-Performance Electric GT with Open-Air Thrills”

Maserati has unveiled the new Grancabrio Folgore, an electric GT that promises to deliver both high-performance thrills and a serene open-air driving experience. The Folgore, which means lightning in Italian, features three electric motors from the Maserati Granturismo Folgore. One motor is mounted to the front axle, while the other two are positioned at the rear. These motors produce a combined output of 751bhp and 996lb ft, with each motor individually generating 402bhp. However, the overall power is limited due to the capacity of the 83kWh battery.

To maintain ride quality, the Grancabrio Folgore’s structure has been reinforced around the sills and rear tray. This reinforcement adds approximately 90kg compared to the coupe version, but it doesn’t affect the straight-line performance significantly. The Grancabrio Folgore can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 2.8 seconds, only 0.1 seconds slower than the Granturismo Folgore. In fact, it is also 0.4 seconds quicker than the MG Cyberster, another electric drop-top GT that will be available in the UK within the next year.

Visually, the Folgore distinguishes itself from its petrol-powered counterpart by featuring “inverted” surfacing instead of a slatted grille. While the petrol variant has grille pillars, the EV version has open areas, and vice versa. Maserati’s design chief, Klaus Busse, explained that this design choice was made to give the car a recognizable Maserati face and avoid it looking “faceless.”

The Grancabrio Folgore retains the same folding fabric roof as its petrol-powered counterpart. The roof can be lowered or raised in just 14 seconds, even while driving at speeds of up to 31mph. Additionally, the Folgore comes equipped with a standard neck-warming system, offering three levels of heat output. An optional wind deflector is also available to reduce turbulence for the passengers.

Although Maserati UK has yet to confirm prices for the Grancabrio Folgore, it is expected that they will start at around £185,000.

Overall, the Grancabrio Folgore represents Maserati’s commitment to embracing electric technology while maintaining the brand’s characteristic performance and design. With its impressive acceleration, luxurious features, and iconic Maserati styling, the Folgore is set to be a compelling option for those seeking a high-performance electric GT.
