“Volkswagen ID 7 GTX: Order Books Open for New Electric Sports Saloon in the UK”

Volkswagen has opened order books for its new electric sports saloon, the Volkswagen ID 7 GTX, in the UK. Priced at £61,980, the ID 7 GTX boasts a dual-motor powertrain that it shares with the Volkswagen ID Buzz GTX MPV. The car delivers 335bhp to all four wheels, providing a 0-62mph time of 5.4 seconds, which is 1.1 seconds quicker than the regular ID 7. The GTX model also features additional daytime running lights in the front bumper, 20-inch alloy wheels, and a wider range of paint options, including metallic red.

Inside the ID 7 GTX, drivers can enjoy a Harmon Kardon sound system and thicker-bolster seats with heating and ventilation. Additionally, there is an estate version of the GTX available, called the Tourer, which offers increased boot space from 532 litres to 605 litres. The estate model starts at £62,670 and reaches 62mph in 5.5 seconds, just 0.1 seconds slower than the saloon.

Both the saloon and estate versions of the ID 7 GTX use the same 86kWh battery pack as the regular range-topping ID 7. However, the GTX models have a slightly reduced range of 366 miles in the saloon and 359 miles in the estate. This is a decrease of approximately 70 miles compared to the regular single-motor saloon with the same battery.

Charging the ID 7 GTX is convenient and efficient, with the capability to charge at up to 200kW. This allows for a 10-80% recharge in less than half an hour, making it easier for drivers to stay on the road for longer periods of time.

In terms of competition, the closest rival to the ID 7 GTX is the new Tesla Model 3 Performance, priced at £59,990. While the Tesla offers a slightly reduced range of 328 miles, it boasts significantly greater performance with its 460bhp dual-motor powertrain, allowing it to accelerate from 0-62mph in just 3.1 seconds.

For those considering combustion-engined alternatives, the options are limited. The Audi S6 diesel saloon, for example, has a 0-62mph time of 5.0 seconds but comes with a significantly higher price tag of £73,015.

Overall, the Volkswagen ID 7 GTX offers an appealing blend of performance, range, and features. With its sporty design, powerful drivetrain, and advanced technology, it provides a strong competitor in the electric sports saloon market.
