Volvo’s highly anticipated electric flagship SUV, the EX90, is finally set to go into production in the coming months, more than 18 months after its initial reveal. The Swedish automaker has promised that the EX90 will establish new safety standards, making it the safest car Volvo has ever produced. The delay in production was largely due to software issues, as the EX90 is Volvo’s first “software-defined” vehicle, featuring an advanced operating system developed entirely in-house.
The EX90 is built on Volvo’s advanced SPA2 electric car platform, which it shares with the new Polestar 3 SUV. This platform allows for more effective use of driver assistance systems, thanks to a complex system of sensors and chips. The car uses a lidar scanner, five radars, eight sensors, and 12 ultrasonic sensors to scan the road ahead and enhance safety features. The EX90 also supports rapid charging at rates of up to 250kW, allowing for quick and convenient charging.
