X’s New AI Chatbot Grok: Deep Integration into the Platform Revealed

X, formerly known as Twitter, is making plans to integrate its AI chatbot, Grok, more deeply into the platform. App researcher Nima Owji recently discovered code on the X website that reveals X’s upcoming features powered by Grok. Although these features have not been publicly launched yet, Owji’s findings provide users with a glimpse into Elon Musk’s reliance on AI for the social media platform.

One of the upcoming features will allow X Premium and Premium+ subscribers to highlight text on the platform and ask Grok about the selection via a pop-up without leaving the page. This feature aims to enhance user experience and make it more convenient to interact with the chatbot.

Another upcoming feature is the “More about this account” prompt, which will enable paying users to request background information about a specific X account directly from Grok. This feature will be accessible through a Grok button on the user’s profile card.

The most significant upcoming feature is the “Grok drawer,” which will allow subscribers to access Grok anywhere on X. This means that the AI chatbot window will float over the X platform and remain accessible regardless of the user’s location on the site. This feature highlights X’s commitment to promoting Grok’s use throughout the entire social media platform.

Grok is the first product from Musk’s AI company, xAI, which recently raised billions of dollars. Musk has been prioritizing his entrance into the AI race, and the deep integration of Grok into X at its launch gave it a built-in user base.

However, Grok has faced its fair share of challenges. In April, X revamped its Explore tab and made it dependent on Grok. The AI chatbot now creates news headlines and summaries based on what is trending on the platform. Unfortunately, Grok has already spread dangerous misinformation, such as creating a fake news story about Iran striking Tel Aviv, Israel with missiles. It has also taken user jokes and generated a fake story about the NYPD being sent into NYC subways to have a “showdown” with an earthquake.

Despite these stumbles, Musk wants to further integrate Grok throughout X, even going as far as wanting the AI chatbot to create posts for users. Although the upcoming Grok features are not exactly that, it is evident that X is determined to push Grok onto users across the platform.

In conclusion, X’s integration of Grok into its platform showcases Musk’s commitment to AI technology. While there have been challenges and instances of misinformation, X continues to develop and enhance Grok’s capabilities, aiming to provide users with a more seamless and interactive experience.
