“Zeekr Mix: Reimagining the Family MPV with Space-Liberating Design and Innovative Features”

Geely’s electric brand, Zeekr, has introduced a groundbreaking redesign of the family MPV with its new model, the Zeekr Mix. Taking inspiration from the original Renault Espace, the Mix rethinks the passenger space by stretching its wheelbase, eliminating the central B-pillar, and incorporating twin sliding doors that open like those on a train. This design creates a 1.5-meter access to the cabin, which Zeekr claims is the widest in automotive history.

The Zeekr Mix, styled by former Bentley head of design Stefan Sielaff, maximizes the space made available by its electric platform. The wheels are positioned at the edges of the car, allowing for the longest possible wheelbase to length ratio. With a length of 4688mm and a wheelbase of 3008mm, the Mix is slightly shorter but wider than the Volkswagen ID Buzz, with a wheelbase that is longer.

Underpinning the Zeekr Mix is Geely Group’s Sustainable Experience Architecture (SEA) platform, specifically the SEA-M (M for mobility) version. This platform separates the shock absorbers from the springs and utilizes a slimmer electric motor to flatten the platform, increasing the space between the rear wheel arches. The result is seating for three across the back as well as the front. The seats can also swivel and be pushed back, creating a play area for kids when the car is parked.

One of the standout features of the Mix is its wide access and low side clearance, making it ideal for both children and older individuals or those with disabilities. Zeekr emphasizes that this redesign not only caters to families but also addresses accessibility concerns.

The Zeekr Mix’s front suspension has been redesigned to allow for a wider turning angle of the front wheels, resulting in a minimum turning radius of less than 5 meters. In comparison, the Ford Puma, a car in the same class, has a turning radius of over 10 meters.

To compensate for the removal of the B-pillar, the Zeekr Mix’s doors incorporate extra high-strength reinforcements, increasing the material strength of the traditional B-pillar by 33%. This ensures the structural stiffness of the vehicle is maintained.

Official documents submitted to the Chinese government reveal that the Mix will be equipped with a battery developed in partnership between CATL and Geely. It is likely to feature an 86kWh pack, similar to the one used in the Zeekr 001, which supports 800V hardware for fast charging up to 360kW.

While the Mix is currently only planned for sale in China, Zeekr has already introduced its other models, the Zeekr X compact SUV and the Zeekr 001 mid-sized ‘shooting brake,’ in Sweden and the Netherlands. The brand intends to expand to more countries this year. Right-hand drive production for markets like Australia and New Zealand will begin in autumn. However, there is no firm commitment yet regarding sales in the UK.

In conclusion, Zeekr’s innovative redesign of the family MPV with the Zeekr Mix offers a unique and spacious solution for families in China. With its wide access, smart utilization of space, and advanced technology, the Mix caters to various user needs while also addressing accessibility concerns. Zeekr’s expansion into international markets indicates a growing demand for electric vehicles that prioritize both functionality and style.
