Acclaimed Tennis star Sania Mirza recently opened up about womanhood, motherhood and the challenges confronted by a working woman while juggling between contrasting roles.
A role model for many women, Sania Mirza has been valiant in making her life choices, be it marrying a man of foreign nationality, or the choice of her career. Headstrong Sania Mirza is admired for leading a life on her terms and not caving into the societal pressures. From planning her motherhood to naming her baby Izhan Mirza Malik, Sania has made decisions in her life not easy for any women to make.
A staunch advocate of women empowerment, Sania believes that a woman should not forgo her ambitions even after embracing motherhood. Mirza emphasized how motherhood was the most endearing thing that happened to her, but that too was not without its costs.
Sania Mirza has set some exceptional standards for working women who are often discouraged when faced with challenges of different roles simultaneously.
Recently, Sania Mirza is on maternity leave and is currently undergoing strenuous physical fitness to return to an optimal weight to resume her game as she plans to make a comeback in the coming months.
“In many ways, motherhood does change your life but in other ways, it will be what you want it to be,” Mrs. Shoaib Malik – who welcomed son Izhan late last year – told a news outlet. “It is the best thing that has happened to me, indeed. But that doesn’t mean my life is at a standstill now.”
Sania acknowledged that tossing in between her role of a sports person, wife, and mother is not an easy task but it is possible through efficient time management.

“The sports thing was natural but being a mother and wife is completely different,” she said. “It’s about managing your time and emotions and compartmentalizing things a little bit. I agree it is easier said than done but motherhood is the most satisfying thing I‘ve experienced. No matter what I do in my life now, this will be my biggest achievement.”
Sania talking about her fitness goals said, “My whole plan is to try and get fit – lose all the baby weight first. I have gotten strong again. My body is back to where it was but I am still preparing myself to resume tennis.”
