Multiple explosions were heard near Chinese Consulate in Karachi’s Clifton area on Friday morning around 9:30 am. The blasts were followed by gunshots.
Suspects possessing hand grenades and other weapons tried to enter the consulate, the guard at gate resisted, to which suspects opened fired at him.
The assailants are reported to have reached on the rooftop of the consulate and have been launching attacks. Time to time gunshots can be heard and smoke can be seen in the Consulate premises.
Rangers and security forces have reached the site and cordoned off the area.
In an ongoing exchange of fire between the assailants and forces, two policemen have been martyred, Dr. Shirin Jamali Executive Director at Jinnah hospital has confirmed. One terrorist has also been killed as per reports.
Governor Sindh Imran Ismail and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah have taken notice of the incident and called for a report on the matter from the Sindh inspector general of police.
