In a major achievement, Pakistan is set to exit the grey list of the Financial Action Task Force (FATF). Media reports quoted a government official as saying that this time “things seem to be going Pakistan’s way.”
According to the details, a four-day plenary session of the FATF is scheduled to end today after which the global anti-money laundering watchdog will announce its decision about which countries will remain on the list and which have been removed.
As per multiple reports, there are strong chances that Pakistan will exit the FATF grey list. German Ambassador Bernhard Stephan Schlagheck has also said that there are indicators that Pakistan will get out of the grey list of FATF as it has full filled most of the requirements for this purpose.

Pertinent to mention, Pakistan was placed on the FATF grey list after it failed to meet the international anti-money laundering (AML) and combating financing of terrorism (CFT) standards and was asked to work closely with the Asia Pacific Group to achieve targets. Under the previous government, led by PTI, Pakistan made significant progress which FATF too recognized.
“Since June 2018, when Pakistan made a high-level political commitment to work with the FATF and APG to strengthen its AML/CFT regime and to address its strategic counter-terrorist financing-related deficiencies, Pakistan’s continued political commitment has led to significant progress across a comprehensive CFT action plan,” the FATF statement said during the last meeting which was held during Imran Khan’s tenure.

Multiple trends are currently running on Twitter, praising Imran Khan, the PTI government, and former Energy Minister Hammad Azhar who served as the Chairman of Pakistan’s AML and CFT Group. PTI leaders are also celebrating the news.
“With the special attention of former Prime Minister Imran Khan, his team did what no one else has done before,” Dr. Shahbaz Gill tweeted.
