On February 9, 2018, renowned Pakistani and Chinese medical experts reviewed progress made by the China-Pakistan Medical Corridor. This practice aimed at seeking cooperation between the countries in the fields of health and medicine.
There were medical experts from more than 10 specialties, which also included neurosurgeons and ophthalmologists. They exchanged their views on the current status of this corridor and general progress as well as progress in the respective fields at the second Pakistan China Medical Congress and 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting held there.
The medical association of China and Pakistan are making coherent efforts to continue in a regular manner to enhance medical education, patients caring, academic exchanges, medical information and experience sharing.
The Congress and meeting were co-organized by Pakistan Medical Association and China Medical Association and focused on academic development and mutual cooperation. Representatives of medical association from Japan, United States, Kazakhstan, United Kingdom and Thailand have attended these meetings.
Chief Guest and Deputy Head of Mission, Embassy of Pakistan, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch also attended the congress and has stressed on the scope for mutual collaboration in capacity building, clinical training, research and technology transfer between the two countries.

Vice President of China Medical Association Wusi Li said, “Within over [a] one year period, under coherent efforts by associations, the academic exchanges and cooperation have been continuously pushed forward in both countries.” President of Pakistan Medical Association, Muhammad Ashraf Nizami, appreciated 500 eye surgeries done by Chinese ophthalmologists at a charity healthcare facility in Karachi under the Bright Journey Pakistan project in January this year.
Furthermore, he emphasized Pakistan’s geographical importance in the world having proximity with the borders of two big markets of Asia; China and India. As CPEC is a development project, it has also greater social implications along with its economic, strategic and security implications.
This Medical Congress’s opening ceremony has been followed by research sessions on cancer research, surgery and internal medicine. The 2018 Annual Scientific Meeting of the medical associations of the Belt and Road Forum also took place during this ceremony.
The medical corridor will play an active role in facilitating medical tourism in Pakistan, with China and South Asian countries, and will be profiting Pakistan from cheaper surgeries in various fields. Through the exchanges of visits of health experts from China and other SAARC countries, there will be opportunities to deliver lectures on different medical and scientific topics of common interest. This practice will help all of these countries to benefit from expert’s vast experience and knowledge.

Both countries’ mutual venture in the medical field would generate such opportunities, which benefits Pakistan’s medical equipment manufacturing industry through Chinese support.

Regulations to review the progress of different projects under CPEC demonstrate both countries’ commitment to improving standards of living of their people. Being an inclusive project, CPEC invites and welcomes other countries to be the part of this project and to get benefits from this project through their investment. As British High Commissioner in Pakistan Mr. Thomas Drew said on Friday, “China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) was a great project which would also be beneficial for many other countries.”

He stated, “Any country could get the benefit of CPEC.
