Three Chinese nationals killed in Karachi Airport attacked

Three Chinese nationals have been killed in a deadly terrorist attack at Karachi Airport last night. Pakistan’s Foreign Office condemns the horrific terrorist attack on the Chinese convoy at Jinnah International Airport in Karachi on Sunday night.

Pakistan has vowed to ensure that those involved in the deadly attack will not go unpunished. As per the latest reports, two Chinese nationals died, one Chinese national was injured, and dozens of others were injured as a result of the blast. The huge blast rattled the port city of Pakistan on Sunday night.

Chinese Embassy confirmed the death of its two nationals in the blast. Meanwhile, the bodies of two Chinese nationals were transferred to the Edhi center morgue, according to rescue officials. As per the Chinese Embassy, the convoy was carrying the employees of the Port Qasim Electric Power Company (Private) Limited.

The attack happened at 11 PM. The security offices have sealed the area and restricted the general public’s movement at the site as investigations are underway. The investigation team is due to visit the site for further investigation.

The teams will collect further evidence during daylight hours, and CCTV footage from the surrounding area will also be reviewed to aid in the investigation.

The blast was heard as far as 20 kilometers from the Karachi Airport. Initially, it was called an oil tanker explosion. Videos of the fire engulfing the cars went viral on social media.

Some videos recorded from a distance showed thick columns of fire and smoke erupting from the scene. The unconfirmed reports claim an 80 Kg explosive was used in the terrorist attack. It was a vehicle-borne suicide bombing that damaged 12 cars, 3 of which were destroyed.

Questions have been raised on the security lapse and failure of the security agencies to protest the foreign nationals in the country. It is not the first time Chinese nationals have been attacked. They have been attacked in the recent past at several different locations across Pakistan including Balochistan as well as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
