Twitter rejoices as PDM splits, video of Maryam Nawaz resurfaces

PPP refused to come to terms with the condition of resignation from Pakistan’s National Assembly set by JUI-F’s Fazl for the long march.

Twitter flourished with hilarious memes and interesting comments after an apparent split in Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) following the postponement on Long March scheduled on March 26th on Tuesday.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) had a tough conversation with Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz’s leader, Maryam Nawaz, and Jamiat-I-Ulema Islam (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazl ur Rehman in an important meeting yesterday.

PPP refused to come to terms with the condition of resignation from Pakistan’s National Assembly set by JUI-F’s Fazl for the long march. Reports are that PPP leader and former President Asif Ali Zardari had asked Nawaz Sharif to return to Pakistan if he wants PPP to resign from the assemblies.

The meeting ended in dismay for Maulana Fazl and Maryam Nawaz with the former walking away from the press conference in disgust.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s social media rejoiced at the moments of a visible split in PDM. Twitter users including advocates and opponents of both parties are heavily weighing in on the subject.

Hashtag #DontMessWithMaryam and #RIP_PDM are trending closely on Twitter. Netizens are trolling opposition members with a popular clip of Maryam Nawaz from one of the PDM rallies on social media. The clip shows Maryam Nawaz mocking Prime Minister Imran Khan for his wishful thinking of rifts between PDM members.

It seems as if Maryam Nawaz’s prophecy of a fight in PDM turned out to be true, shattering the dream of opposition to packing up the current government.

Besides celebrating the downfall of PDM, social media also has a crucial message for Prime Minister Imran Khan on this occasion. With the weakening of the opposition, the government is released from some of the immediate threats to its stability. Social media believes PM Imran Khan has the opportunity to give interrupted attention to the development and progress of Pakistan in the remaining two-and-a-half years of his government.
