U.S. Hits Back at “Iranian-affiliated” Camps in Syria

U.S. Hits Back at “Iranian-affiliated” Camps in Syria

“U.S. military forces conducted precision strikes today on facilities in eastern Syria used by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran-affiliated groups in response to continued attacks against U.S. personnel in Iraq and Syria. The strikes were conducted against a training facility and a safe house near the cities of Abu Kamal and Mayadin, respectively.” Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said in a statement.

The U.S. military conducted airstrikes on two targets in eastern Syria. It marks the third time in more than two weeks the United States has responded to militant attacks on U.S. military bases in Iraq and Syria.

“U.S. will defend itself”

“The President has no higher priority than the safety of U.S. personnel, and he directed today’s action to make clear that the United States will defend itself, its personnel, and its interests,” Austin said, emphasizing the inevitability of those attacks.

According to the U.S. official, one of the sites was also used for storing weapons. Unnamed officials discussed details of an operation on condition of anonymity.

Approximately 56 U.S. soldiers have been injured in the Syria and Iraq attacks, but all have returned to their duties. These victims suffered traumatic brain injuries as well as other minor injuries.

Iranian president lashed out

These attacks are deemed suspicious as well as necessary, considering the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas by the experts. The USA, which is continuously pressing its support for Israel, faces heavy backlash from the Muslims World, especially from Iran.

Iran is the major player in the Middle East; hence, the USA openly made its position clear while stating that attacks were carried over “Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) and Iran-affiliated groups.” On the other side, the Iranian president lashed out at America that “they do not seek to widen the scopes of the conflict” in Gaza, but “they are supplying the fuel for Israel’s war machine.”
