US Embassy and Consulate General in Pakistan take bold steps to expedite visa processing

US Embassy in Islamabad and the US Consulate General in Karachi have shared initiatives aimed at reducing visa appointment wait times.

In response to the soaring demand for US visas in Pakistan, the US Embassy in Islamabad and the US Consulate General in Karachi have unveiled a series of groundbreaking initiatives aimed at drastically reducing visa appointment wait times. These measures, announced recently, mark a significant leap towards enhancing travel ease between Pakistan and the United States.

Expedited Visa Appointments

The most immediate relief for visa applicants in Pakistan is the expedited processing of appointments. Over 10,000 visa applicants who were initially scheduled for 2024 at the US Consulate General in Karachi will now have their appointments rescheduled to 2023, with some available as early as next week. This rescheduling is set to alleviate the backlog of visa appointments, offering a swift visa application process for numerous Pakistani citizens.

Dual Location Scheduling

In a bid to provide more flexibility to Pakistani travelers, visa applicants can now reschedule their appointments at either the US Consulate General in Karachi or the US Embassy in Islamabad, depending on their convenience. This dual location scheduling aims to empower applicants to choose a date, time, and location that best suits their needs. This flexibility is anticipated to reduce pressure on both facilities and make the visa application process more accessible to applicants from all over Pakistan.

Interview Waiver Applications

Starting September 25, 2023, the US Consulate General in Karachi will begin accepting new interview waiver applications for eligible applicants who have previously been issued US visas. Applicants can check their eligibility on ustraveldocs.com/pk, print out a confirmation letter, and submit their application materials to a designated drop box without the need for an in-person appointment. The US Embassy in Islamabad has already been accepting interview waiver applications for qualified candidates.

Commitment to Strengthen Ties

These initiatives collectively underscore the United States’ commitment to fostering a strong relationship between the two countries. The primary goal of these measures is to facilitate legitimate travel to the United States as quickly and efficiently as possible. This recognizes the importance of maintaining connections with family, strengthening business ties, pursuing educational opportunities, and fostering cultural exchanges between Pakistan and the United States.
