In a historic upset at the T20 World Cup, the USA secured a thrilling Super Over victory against Pakistan in Texas. Both teams scored 159 in their 20 overs at Grand Prairie Stadium, with the USA, debuting as tournament co-hosts, tying Pakistan’s total by scoring 14 runs in the final over.
In the Super Over, the USA batted first and put immense pressure on Pakistan by scoring 18 for one. Aaron Jones contributed 11 runs before being run out, and seven additional runs came from extras. Pakistan’s Iftikhar Ahmed managed five runs off three balls before being brilliantly caught by Nitish Kumar near the boundary. USA bowler Saurabh Netravalkar then limited Pakistan to 13 for one.

After already defeating Canada in their opener by seven wickets, Group A leaders USA now have a strong chance of advancing to the Super 8s round. The top two teams from each of the four groups move on to the last eight of the tournament.
USA captain Monank Patel, who was named the official player of the match, praised the team’s performance, calling the victory a “big achievement.” “Beating Pakistan, and playing for the first time, the way we played today, I’m really proud of the boys,” he said.
