Maria’s father and brothers arrested in alleged incest case of Toba Tek Singh

Following the viral video of the crime on social media, police took action and arrested the three suspects.

In an alleged case of incest, a girl named Maria was strangled to death by her brother named Faisal along with their father, Abdul Sattar in a small village of Toba Tek Singh, Punjab. She was allegedly subjected to incest by both suspects that led to her pregnancy which caused her family to murder her.

The incident came to light through a viral video. As per the reports, another brother of Maria secretly filmed the incident of his brother and father killing his sister. He allegedly released the video on social media as well as informed the police about the incident.

Following the viral video of the crime on social media, police took action and arrested the three suspects. They also exhumed Maria’s body for autopsy at the District Headquarters (DHQ) Hospital. Samples are being sent to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency for further investigation into the cause of death and pregnancy.

DPO Ibadat Nisar has confirmed the arrests of Faisal, their father Abdul Sattar, as well as another brother, Shehbaz, who filmed the crime. A sister-in-law of Faisal also revealed the death threats she received from Faisal in case of disclosing the murder. She also mentioned in the investigation about Maria disclosed the repeated incest from her father and brother.

The incident occurred on the night between March 17th and March 18th, 2024. The family buried Maria in the village graveyard. Public outrage followed after the video surfaced online, leading to protests and demands for justice. Authorities are waiting for forensic lab reports to determine the exact circumstances of Maria’s death as well as her pregnancy.

Meanwhile, the Information Minister of the Punjab Government Uzma Bukhari said that Punjab Government is taking strict action against the culprits and are following the case.  She added that the Punjab Government has zero tolerance for such cases and that culprits should be ashamed of their actions.
