‘Want to give back to university’: Imran Khan on Oxford elections

According to the Guardian, the election is expected to place in October. The form had been submitted following the consent of the former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Former Prime Minister Imran Khan says he is running the elections for the chancellor of Oxford University to ‘give back’. He expressed his views in an interview with The Telegraph.

In an interview with The Telegraph from his jail cell, he said that he wants to give back to the university because it helped him in his early years. Khan said that he would be a passionate advocate for the university, where he studied 50 years ago.

In his first public comments on his application, the former international cricketer said: “Oxford University helped me a lot in my formative years. As chancellor, I would passionately advocate for Oxford, championing its values of diversity, equality, and inclusion, both in the UK and abroad.

More than 250,000 alumni will vote in the online balloting, and if won, the chancellor will serve the post for 10 years. News outlet believes his participation could raise awareness of his imprisonment and put pressure on the Government of Pakistan.

Last week, PTI leader Sayed Zulfi Bukhari confirmed had submitted the form of Imran Khan for Oxford University Chancellor Election 2024. The election is scheduled for later this year when the university’s graduates and staff will vote for a new chancellor.

According to the Guardian, the election is expected to place in October. The form had been submitted following the consent of the former Prime Minister Imran Khan.

He will enter an online ballot from his prison. For the first time, the elections for the Chancellor will be held online as opposed to the traditional process where the graduates were expected to attend in person in full academic dress. As per the news sources, the change in voting style has been done to facilitate Imran Khan.
