WATCH: Afghan Consul General refused to raise for Pakistan’s national anthem

The video caused a debate on social media as netizens argued that diplomats are bound to respect the national anthem of the country where they are serving.

Afghan Consul General and diplomats refused to stand up to Pakistan’s national anthem at a convention organized in Peshawar today. Afghan diplomats and the Consul General attended the convention held in Peshawar on Tuesday.

The video showed them seated in the front row beside Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Ali Amin Gandapur. At the same time, Gandapur and Pakistani delegates stood up for the national anthem, whereas they did not stand up in respect of the anthem. The video of the Afghan diplomats seated during the national anthem has gone viral on social media.

The Afghan diplomats are receiving flak on social media for breaking diplomatic norms and showing disrespect to Pakistan. The event was the ‘Seerat-un-Nabi conference’ and was organized on the occasion of the 12th Rabi ul Awwal in Peshawar.

“The disrespect shown to #Pakistan’s national anthem by the Afghan Consul General in a conference at #Peshawar by not standing when it was played is against the diplomatic norms. The diplomats must show respect for the national anthem of the nation where they are serving,” wrote one user on X.

“Afghan Consul General Muhibullah Shakir refuses to stand up for Pakistan’s national anthem while participating in Rahmat Lal Alamin conference in Peshawar. The KP government in Peshawar invited the Afghan Consul General to a ceremony where he remained seated during Pakistan’s national anthem, despite diplomatic protocols requiring respect for the host country’s laws and customs,” wrote another user on X.

Meanwhile, the opponents of PTI and CM Ali Amin Gandapur are condemnating them on social media for allowing the Afghan Consul General to allegedly disrespect Pakistan.
