In a heartwarming display of unity, New Zealand Police joined in the Diwali celebrations in Auckland with a Bhangra dance.
The video of the Police officials performing the Bollywood song went viral on social media. Videos circulating on social media show Police officers energetically dancing to Punjabi songs. In another video, Police officers were seen dancing to Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Jhoome Jo Pathan’ song from the Pathan movie.
People gathered in large numbers as Police entertained and interacted with the audience. Many social media users praised Neq Zealand for embracing a different culture. Interestingly, Police officers were dressed in their uniforms as they performed Bhangra to Punjabi songs. The video shows people gathered in large numbers watching the joyful dancing, highlighting the importance of cultural exchange and community harmony.
One social media user commented, “This is so cool. It’s nice to see them open to new culture,” while another added, “NZ is multicultural, and we celebrate all cultures and races. That shows respect.”

According to recent data shared in 2023, the Indian population has become the third-largest ethnic group in New Zealand. In the 2023 Census, 292,092 people in the country identified as members of the Indian community. This marks a 22 percent increase in the Indian population in New Zealand since 2018.

Hindi is the fourth most spoken language in the country. Whereas, the Census data of New Zealand showed Punjabi was the fastest-growing language in the country between 2018-2023. The language is spoken widely in both India and Pakistan. About half of the growth in the Asian population in New Zealand came from India and Filipino ethnicity. Chinese Community is the third largest ethnic group after the European and Maori groups. The Indian population in Auckland grew by 13 percent, rising from 154,824 in 2018 to 175,794 in 2023.
