Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz conducted a surprise visit to Mayo Hospital on Thursday, suspending the hospital’s Medical Superintendent (MS) and CEO over negligence and poor performance.

During her visit to the province’s largest healthcare facility, CM Maryam inspected various departments, including the emergency block, TB and Chest ward, ICU cardiology, and others. She engaged with patients and their attendants, who voiced concerns over inadequate medical facilities, including the unavailability of syringes and essential medicines.

Expressing her dissatisfaction, the chief minister criticized the hospital administration for its lack of awareness regarding the conditions at the facility. She personally checked the cleanliness of wards and inspected the storeroom to ensure the availability of necessary medical supplies.
“The public is suffering, but no one is paying attention,” she remarked, ordering an immediate removal of the MS and CEO.
Following the visit, CM Maryam called an emergency meeting and directed authorities to conduct a detailed inquiry into the hospital’s operations. She also instructed officials to devise a comprehensive plan for the repair and maintenance of the hospital to improve healthcare services for the public.
