What types of bark collars are there?

Unreasonable barking of a dog causes a lot of inconvenience to both the owner of the animal and his neighbors. That is what a dog bark collar can help with.

Unreasonable barking of a dog causes a lot of inconvenience to both the owner of the animal and his neighbors. Conventional parenting methods are not always effective, and a dog bark collar has been developed specifically to address this problem. In this article, you will find out what types of collars there are.

Ultrasonic

When the dog begins to bark, the collar emits ultrasonic waves that are inaudible to humans but unpleasant for the dog. This collar is considered less effective than others (only 60%). The dog simply gets used to the sound over time and continues to bark. Also, these collars are not suitable for dogs with hearing problems. These collars are often used for small dog breeds.

Spray and gas

When the dog starts barking, the sensor is triggered and the device releases a trickle of hissing inert gas. Gas does not harm the pet’s health, the dog is more afraid of sound. These collars are considered safe and more or less effective, but they can only be used during the warmer months. Spray and gas collars are suitable for both small and large dog breeds.

Vibrating

When the dog starts barking, the sensor is triggered and the collar vibrates. This collar does not hurt the dog, which is why it is considered humane. This collar is suitable for small and medium breeds, for sensitive and shy dogs. For large breeds, however, it is not always effective, since vibration is perceived by them as a small massage.

Electrical

The most effective but least humane dog bark collar. When the dog starts barking, the collar will shock you. At a low level, it causes severe discomfort, at a high level, severe pain. It is believed that the collar will help get rid of unreasonable barking in a couple of days. This collar is not suitable for small or nervous and shy dogs.

Combined

Several methods of exposure are combined, most often ultrasound or vibration with current. At the same time, the intensity of the punishment is increasing: as soon as the dog starts barking, the device responds with a sound or vibration impulse, but if the barking does not stop, a current discharge follows after 30 seconds.

If the dog does not stop barking after that, the charge power will increase automatically. This system is better than others in helping the animal to link barking with subsequent punishment. A number of combined models allow you to select the mode of only light (ultrasonic or vibration) exposure.

PROS

  • The device has a number of important advantages:
  • The dog quickly loses the habit of barking for no reason. The correct device does not harm the health of the animal.
  • The device is easy to use.

CONS

  • The stress that an animal is experiencing can worsen its psychological state and lead to nervous breakdowns.
  • False positives, especially frequent ones, disorient the dog – it ceases to understand what it is being punished for, becomes depressed or aggressive.
