WhatsApp adds event creation to individual chats

WhatsApp adds event creation in individual chats, making planning and coordination easier with date, location, and virtual meeting options.

WhatsApp, the widely popular messaging app owned by Meta, continues its trend of delivering user-centric updates. The platform is currently developing a new “events” feature aimed at enhancing the user experience by enabling event creation in individual chats. This feature, already accessible to beta users, is expected to roll out widely in a future update, according to WABetaInfo.

Expanding Event Features Beyond Group Chats

Previously, WhatsApp’s event scheduling functionality was limited to group chats and community announcement groups. With the new update, the feature extends to individual chats, ensuring a consistent and seamless experience across the platform. By integrating this functionality into private conversations, WhatsApp aims to minimize the back-and-forth often required to confirm meeting details or plan activities.

Key Features of the Event Creation Tool

The new event tool simplifies the planning process by introducing structured fields for all necessary details.

  • Mandatory Event Name: Each event must include a name, ensuring clarity and purpose.
  • Optional Description: Users can add a description to provide additional context or specifics about the event.
  • Date and Time: Users are required to set the event date, while an optional end time allows for defining the duration.
  • Location: For in-person events, an optional location field is available to pinpoint where the event will take place.
  • Virtual Integration: Users can link an audio or video call for virtual meetings, enhancing flexibility.

Once an event is created, it is automatically shared in the chat, and the recipient is notified. Recipients can then accept or decline the invitation, streamlining communication and ensuring participants are clear about the schedule.

Consistency Across Platforms

The event creation process in individual chats mirrors its functionality in group chats, maintaining uniformity across the app. This ensures users enjoy the same intuitive experience, regardless of the chat context.

Enhancing Coordination and Reducing Clutter

This feature is designed to improve coordination between users, particularly in one-on-one interactions. Whether organizing private tutoring sessions, personal meetings, or casual gatherings, users can now plan without the need for lengthy text exchanges. Additionally, attaching optional elements like a location or linking a call provides users with flexibility, making it easier to adapt to various scheduling needs.

Other Features in the Pipeline

In addition to the event feature, WhatsApp is reportedly working on a photo polls feature. This will allow users to add images to poll options, giving voters a visual representation of each choice. Initially exclusive to channel owners, this functionality will eventually expand to group chats and individual conversations.
