WhatsApp brings AR video call features to iOS users

Currently, these AR features are accessible only to beta testers who have installed the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS from the TestFlight app.

WhatsApp, Meta’s popular messaging app, is rolling out new augmented reality (AR) features for iOS users, previously exclusive to Android. These features, now available in the latest WhatsApp beta for iOS 24.17.10.74 through the TestFlight app, are set to enhance the personalization and interactivity of video calls, offering a more immersive experience.

Dynamic Facial Filters and Background Editing

One of the standout features of this update is the introduction of dynamic facial filters. These filters allow users to modify their appearance in real-time during video calls, adjusting the color tone of their video feed to match their preferences. Whether it’s for a professional meeting or a casual chat with friends, these filters offer a new level of expression and creativity.

In addition to facial filters, WhatsApp has introduced a background editing tool. This tool gives users the ability to either blur their surroundings or replace them with pre-set backgrounds provided by the app. Whether you want to appear as if you’re on a beach or simply want to maintain privacy by blurring your environment, this feature provides flexibility and enhances the overall video call experience.

Low-Light Mode and Touch-Up Features

For users who often make video calls in dimly lit environments, WhatsApp has added a low-light mode toggle. This feature is designed to enhance visibility, making evening calls or conversations in poorly lit rooms much clearer and more comfortable. The low-light mode is particularly beneficial for users who need to communicate during late hours or in environments with inadequate lighting.

Complementing the low-light mode is the touch-up feature, which subtly smooths out skin imperfections. This filter offers users a more polished and refined appearance during video calls, making it ideal for both personal and professional settings. Whether you’re catching up with loved ones or participating in a virtual meeting, the touch-up mode helps you look your best with minimal effort.

Automatic Configuration Settings

One of the most convenient aspects of this update is WhatsApp’s ability to remember your previous settings. Whether it’s the selected background, facial filter, or low-light adjustments, the app will automatically apply these configurations in your next video call. This feature ensures a seamless and consistent experience, saving users time and effort in setting up their video calls.
