WhatsApp is gearing up to launch a highly anticipated feature that will allow users to share their favorite music from Spotify directly in their status updates. This new integration aims to enhance the way users interact with music on the platform, making it easier to share and discover songs.
How the Feature Works
According to WABetaInfo, the feature was spotted in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.8.3. Once it rolls out, users will see an additional option when sharing a track from Spotify. Alongside the usual option to send the song as a message to a contact or group, there will be a new choice to post it as a WhatsApp status update. When a user selects this option, WhatsApp will automatically generate a preview of the shared track. This preview will include important details such as the song title, artist name, and album cover, providing an engaging visual experience for viewers.

Similar to Instagram Stories
The new WhatsApp feature will function similarly to the existing music-sharing option on Instagram Stories. On Instagram, when users post a song from Spotify, it appears as a story with an embedded preview, allowing viewers to quickly access and play the track. WhatsApp is now adopting the same approach, making music sharing more interactive for its users. To further simplify access, WhatsApp will integrate a “Play on Spotify” button within the status update. This means viewers can tap the button and open the song directly in the Spotify app without needing to search for it manually.
Privacy and Encryption
WhatsApp ensures that user privacy remains a top priority with this new feature. The company has confirmed that it will not have access to the specific songs shared in status updates. Thanks to WhatsApp’s end-to-end encryption, only the intended recipients will be able to view the shared content, maintaining the platform’s strong privacy standards.
Enhancing WhatsApp’s Status Feature
The ability to share Spotify tracks is just the latest in a series of improvements WhatsApp has made to its status feature. Since launching status updates in 2017, the Meta-owned messaging platform has added various enhancements, such as the ability to share channel posts, add music, and cross-post updates to Instagram and Facebook.
In addition to the Spotify integration, WhatsApp is also working on another Instagram-inspired feature: a “Layout” tool for status updates. This upcoming addition will allow users to create collages with up to six photos, providing a new way to share multiple images in a single status update instead of posting them separately.
