WhatsApp testing features in new update

As of now, this feature is in the beta phase and is limited to a few users who are part of the beta testing program.

WhatsApp, Meta’s popular instant messaging app, is making headlines with the introduction of a new feature: interactive animated emojis. Developed using the Lottie framework, this feature promises to enhance the user experience by adding a touch of vibrancy and expression to messaging. Currently available in the beta testing phase, the feature is accessible to a select group of users who have updated to the latest version of the app.

Beta Testing and Availability

According to WABetaInfo, the new animated emojis feature is available in the Android 2.24.15.15 update, which can be downloaded from the Google Play Store. As of now, this feature is in the beta phase and is limited to a few users who are part of the beta testing program. Those interested in trying out the feature can update their application and explore the new animated emojis during their chats.

High-Quality Animations with Lottie

The animated emojis are crafted using the Lottie framework, known for producing high-quality animations without compromising performance. This ensures that users can enjoy a seamless and delightful messaging experience. The introduction of animated emojis is expected to make conversations more lively and expressive, adding a new dimension to digital communication.

Limited Emoji Selection

It is important to note that not all emojis on WhatsApp will have an animated version. Currently, only a few selected emojis are supported by animation, including the two laughing emojis and the red heart emoji. Users can identify which emojis have the animated effect by sending them during a chat. If the emoji has an animated version, it will appear animated; otherwise, it will remain in its usual form. WhatsApp developers are likely to expand the range of animated emojis in the future, utilizing the Lottie library for their designs.

Expanding Beyond Text: Voice Messaging to Meta AI

In addition to the animated emojis, WhatsApp is also testing a new feature that allows users to send voice messages to its AI chatbot, Meta AI. This feature is available in the WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.24.16.10 and is currently being rolled out to a small group of beta testers. The voice message icon appears next to the text field in the Meta AI chat interface, enabling users to record and send voice messages. While Meta AI will respond in text format, this feature marks the AI’s first venture into audio processing, catering to users who prefer speaking over typing.

Quick Reactions with Double-Tap

WhatsApp is also experimenting with a feature that allows users to quickly react to messages by double-tapping them. Similar to features on Instagram and Facebook, a heart emoji will appear by default when a message is double-tapped. This feature, currently in beta, aims to enhance user engagement and convenience, although its public release date has not been confirmed.
