WhatsApp to introduce ‘mark all chats as read’ feature for android

While the feature is not yet available to all beta testers, it is expected to be rolled out to all users in a future update.

WhatsApp is set to launch a new feature that will make managing unread messages easier for Android users. This feature, which has been available for iOS users for years, is currently in development and will soon be available on Android as well.

Long-Awaited Feature for Android

Meta-owned WhatsApp is working on a new feature, “Mark All Chats as Read,” aimed at enhancing user convenience and improving chat management. According to WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.24.18.11) is already showing signs of this development. This feature is designed to help users clear their unread messages count in one simple action, which can be particularly beneficial for those dealing with numerous unread chats.

The new feature will be integrated into the overflow menu within the chat list, allowing users to mark all chats as read in a single step, instead of having to open or select each chat individually. This will save time and help users maintain a clutter-free interface, making their overall messaging experience more efficient.

Streamlining Chat Management

Currently available in the beta version for Android users through the Google Play Beta Program, the “Mark All Chats as Read” feature is expected to simplify chat management significantly. By reducing the need for repetitive actions across multiple chats, the feature will be especially useful for those who handle a high volume of messages daily. Users will no longer have to manually select or open each unread chat to clear notifications; instead, they can opt for a one-click solution to organize their conversations swiftly.

This update aligns with WhatsApp’s ongoing efforts to improve functionality and user satisfaction across its platform. The feature has been available on iOS devices for some time, and bringing it to Android aims to provide a consistent user experience across both operating systems.

While the feature is not yet available to all beta testers, it is expected to be rolled out to all users in a future update. Once implemented, the feature will give Android users greater control over their messaging experience by offering an option to either automatically reset or retain unread message notifications each time the app is opened.
