WhatsApp to make calls more convenient with new call menu

WhatsApp is testing a new call menu to simplify calls, prevent accidental dials, and improve group call management.

Meta-owned messaging platform WhatsApp is preparing to introduce a redesigned call menu aimed at enhancing the user experience in both individual and group chats. The update, currently in beta testing, is expected to improve call accessibility, minimize accidental calls, and provide users with greater control over their calling options. With a more streamlined approach, the upcoming changes will make it easier for users to initiate and manage voice and video calls without unnecessary steps or confusion.

Introduction of the Call Link Feature

A key addition in the update is the call link feature, which allows users to generate and share call links directly within the chat interface. This eliminates the need to navigate to the calls tab or the attachment menu, making the process of setting up a call more convenient. The shortcut for creating call links is currently available within the chat attachment sheet, which users can access by tapping the attachment icon in the chat bar. This improvement ensures that users can quickly create and send call links without interrupting their conversations.

Merging Call Buttons for Better Control

One of the major changes in the redesign is the unification of the call buttons. At present, WhatsApp features two separate buttons for voice and video calls within individual and group chats. Tapping either button initiates the corresponding call immediately, sometimes leading to accidental dials, which can be frustrating for users. To address this issue, WhatsApp is merging these buttons into a single menu, allowing users to select their preferred call option before the call is placed. This additional confirmation step helps prevent unintended calls while maintaining an efficient calling experience.

Enhancing Call Management in Group Chats

Beyond individual calls, WhatsApp’s redesigned menu is set to improve call management in group chats. The new interface will enable users to select specific group members before initiating a group call, offering more flexibility in managing participants. Additionally, the inclusion of a call link shortcut within the same menu will allow users to generate and share call links directly from the chat, making it easier to invite others to join calls without switching between tabs. These changes are expected to enhance usability and reduce unnecessary steps when making group calls.

WhatsApp has already begun rolling out the redesigned call menu to select beta testers through the Android 2.25.5.8 version via the Google Play Beta Program. However, the update remains in its testing phase and is not yet available to all users. A wider stable release is expected in the near future, once the feature has been fully refined.
