Senior journalist Haroon Rashid recently revealed that Maryam Nawaz’s son, Junaid Safdar, will run the next elections from Rahim Yar Khan. PML-N is yet to confirm the news.
Haroon Rashid revealed the news during an interview last night. He also talked about why Rahim Yar Khan was chosen despite PML-N having a low number of votes in the “Siraiki Belt.”
According to Haroon Rashid, Chaudhry Munir is the reason for this. Chaudhry Munir is a wealthy businessman of Pakistan and the father-in-law of Maryam Nawaz’s daughter.
Chaudhry Munir, who rose from a humble background to become one of the wealthiest businessmen of the country with his own private jets, came into the limelight during the period of Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi as chief minister of Punjab because of his close political and business relationships with the Chaudhries of Gujrat.
Therefore, due to Chaudhry Munir’s stronghold in Rahim Yar Khan and close ties with the Nawaz family, he will assist Junaid Safdar in campaigning for Rahim Yar Khan.
More on Junaid Safdar
Junaid Safdar is a Political Studies student from the University of Cambridge. He also serves as the first Pakistani captain of Cambridge’s polo team. He decided to enter politics in 2018 as the third generation of the Sharif family to choose a political career.
Sources revealed that Junaid is currently acquiring political training from Nawaz who often accompanies him to political rallies too.
In 2018, London Police arrested Junaid Safdar for punching protestors outside the family’s London residence. However, Junaid Safdar claimed that the protester first attacked him.

Junaid Safdar: Target of criticism
As he is part of the opposition, Junaid Safdar is a close target of criticism. During his recent election campaign in Kashmir, PM Khan targeted Junaid Safdar playing polo. Commonly considered as the “game of the rich,” PM Khan accused Maryam Nawaz of looting the public’s money to fund her son’s luxurious sport.
Maryam Nawaz then retaliated to PM Khan’s statements. She hit back by saying that at least her son was not brought up on the knees of Jews. Maryam Nawaz was targeting PM Khan’s ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith.
After this statement from Maryam, Imran Khan’s ex-wife Jemima Goldsmith also threw herself into the controversy. Jemima said: “Maryam Nawaz announced that my children are being raised on the knees of the Jews. I left Pakistan in 2004 for the same reason. I have faced anti-Semitic attacks from the media and politicians for almost a decade. This includes death threats and demonstrations outside my house every week. But it still continues.”
My kids are “being raised in the lap of the Jews,” announced @MaryamNSharif today.

After Jemima’s statement, Maryam also responded by tweeting her. Maryam said, “I’m not interested in you or your kids or your personal life because I have much better things to do. But if your ex-husband Imran Khan is dragging the family, others will have to respond. You should only blame your ex-husband.”
