Former Pakistan cricket captain Shahid Afridi explains the reason behind his daughter’s marriage to the renowned fast bowler, Shaheen Shah Afridi.
The 23-year-old pacer and Shahid Afridi’s second daughter exchanged vows in a private Nikah ceremony in February this year. Subsequently, their grand wedding and Valima reception were celebrated in Karachi and Islamabad in September 2023, respectively.
Afridi shared on a private news channel that discussions between the two families had been ongoing for a substantial period. He emphasized the significance of being humane, stating, “A human should be a human, that is the most important thing.” Afridi had not known Shaheen personally, but their families had prior acquaintances that had dwindled over time.

Afridi spoke highly of Shaheen, stating that he was a great human being. The decision was influenced by feedback from those who had played domestic cricket with Shaheen, who praised his attitude and maturity, highlighting the importance of his character.
During the interview, Afridi was also asked about offers to appear in movies, to which he revealed that he had received offers two to three times, including from India. However, Afridi had always associated his identity with cricket, and his family had no ties to the film industry. Consequently, he never seriously considered pursuing a career in acting, despite some occasional involvement in TV commercials.
Earlier, in an interview, Shaheen Shah Afridi opens up about his marriage with Ansha Afridi, daughter of Shahid Afridi. The cricketer talked in detail about his marriage with Ansha Afridi.
The pacer says he decided to marry Ansha Afridi. Shaheen said that he decided to marry Ansha in the beginning and it was not the decision taken by the family.
“It was my marriage so obviously, it was me who thought about marrying her. Lala and my brother have been friends for a very long time, and our elders know each other too. So, my mother went ahead with the rishta (proposal) and the families agreed,” he said shyly.
