Individuals throughout the world are wearing hijab, in the month of Ramadan, to express their solidarity with female Muslims who face discrimination.
The objective of the campaign is to build bridges and break stereotypes. The World Hijab Day Organization has started a campaign that is encouraging non-Muslims to experiences fast and Hijab in the holy month of Ramadan.

“This event is for those who want to experience the hijab for more than just one day in order to better understand what Muslim women go through on a daily basis,” said Nazma Khan, the president and founder of the World Hijab Day organization.
The participants have expressed their experiences with the organization. The 11-year old Grace and her mother says, she “feels very strongly” about it, and is planning to wear the entire month.

Her mother Ellie added that they would shift their wardrobe to less revealing clothes that will compliment their hijab.
“Ramadan is an important month in the Islamic calendar so what better time to show my support to my hijabi sisters worldwide. As a Christian, I feel it is important for all faiths to support each other in their beliefs and their spiritual journey without prejudice”, said another participant.
“In Islam, I found peace; a peace that was missing for so many years. In Islam, I became the best version of myself”, said Brittney, a Muslim Convert, USA.

The struggles for Muslim women to follow the Islamic tradition of Hijab in the western world have increased in the recent years. The European country, one by one are coming together to restrict Muslim women from wearing Hijab in public spaces; the hijab according to them is a symbol of a religion that is threatening to their secularized society. After France, countries like Denmark, Germany, and Sweden have placed an official ban on the headscarves.
The ‘Hijab30’ challenge is gaining worldwide momentum. The non-Muslims participating in the challenge aim to make their societies more accepting and tolerant towards Muslim women, that will thwart Islamophobia.
A few months ago, ‘Punish a Muslim’- a hate movement towards Muslims was initiated in UK. The movement distributed pamphlets to people, encouraging them to attack Muslims and promised a reward for those who pull headscarves off the Muslim women, for hurting them and for throwing acid on them.
