World leaders react to sudden death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi

World leaders are expressing condolence on the demise of the Iranian President, Foreign Minister, and other officials present in the helicopter.

The world reacts to the sudden and tragic death of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian in a plane crash on Sunday that occurred in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province.

Iran’s news agency, IRNA, reported that the incident occurred after a helicopter suffered a hard landing due to bad weather while returning from Khoda Afarin county to Tabriz.

World leaders are expressing condolence on the demise of the Iranian President, Foreign Minister, and other officials present in the helicopter.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, “Deeply saddened and shocked by the tragic demise of Dr. Seyed Ebrahim Raisi, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran. His contribution to strengthening India-Iran bilateral relationship will always be remembered. My heartfelt condolences to his family and the people of Iran. India stands with Iran in this time of sorrow.”

His Foreign Minister Jai Shankar also expressed his condolence on the incident. “Deeply shocked to hear of the passing away of Iran’s President Dr Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister H. Amir-Abdollahian in the helicopter crash. Recall my many meetings with them, most recently in January 2024. Our condolences to their families. We stand with the people of Iran at time of this tragedy,” he said in a tweet on X.

President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev also expressed shock at the sudden demise of the Iranian President. “Today, after bidding a friendly farewell to the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi, we were profoundly troubled by the news of a helicopter carrying the top delegation crash-landing in Iran. Our prayers to Allah Almighty are with President Ebrahim Raisi and the accompanying delegation. As a neighbor, friend, and brotherly country, the Republic of Azerbaijan stands ready to offer any assistance needed,” he said in a tweet.

The Prime Minister and President of Pakistan also expressed their solidarity with Iran. “Pakistan had the pleasure of hosting President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian on a historic visit, less than a month ago. They were good friends of Pakistan. Pakistan will observe a day of mourning and the flag will fly at half mast as a mark of respect for President Raisi and his companions and in solidarity with Brotherly Iran,” said PM Shehbaz Sharif in a tweet.

In a statement issued by Hamas, it expressed deep condolences and solidarity with the Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, the Iranian government, and the Iranian people for this immense loss. He praised the Iranian leaders and expressed confidence.
