The world mourns the death of legendary Indian singer, Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away at the age of 92 in Mumbai on Sunday morning. Singer also revered as the ‘nightingale of India’ died after COVID-19 complications.
The news sent shockwaves to her countless fans all over the world. Messages of condolences poured in from India, and the world.
The premiers of India and Pakistan expressed grief and sorrow on her death with a tweet acknowledging her flawless aura and stature as a distinguished singer of this century.
“I am anguished beyond words. The kind and caring Lata Didi has left us. She leaves a void in our nation that cannot be filled. The coming generations will remember her as a stalwart of Indian culture, whose melodious voice had an unparalleled ability to mesmerize people,” wrote Indian PM Narendra Modi.
“Lata Didi’s songs brought out a variety of emotions. She closely witnessed the transitions of the Indian film world for decades. Beyond films, she was always passionate about India’s growth. She always wanted to see a strong and developed India.”

End of a golden era
Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan, also extended his condolence. “With the death of Lata Mangeshkar, the subcontinent has lost one of the truly great singers the world has known. Listening to her songs has given so much pleasure to so many people all over the world,” said PM Khan in a tweet.
Former president of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai also voiced his sentiments on the death of Lata Mangeshkar.
“With her voice, Lata Mangeshkar filled millions of hearts with joy. Her melodies are universal and forever. My profound condolence to her family and the people of India. May the nightingale of India Rest In Peace,” wrote Karzai.
